SYDNEY IN 09’ – THE GOLD COAST SUBLIME

Sydney, Australia – 5th August 2008

Less than a week from the end of its 2008 Expo, CEDIA, the world leading association for electronic systems professionals, their trade suppliers and affiliates today announced the official dates for the Expo’s move to Sydney in 2009.

Following the public affirmation at this year’s CEDIA Awards that the Expo will shift to the Sydney Exhibition Centre from July 16th to July 18th 2009 the association was also quick to mention its intention that in ensuing years the Expo would revolve amongst the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. During the announcement Rob Sanders Director of CEDIA pointed out that “the stability of the base on the Gold Coast for the past eight years was instrumental in the growth of the show and the maturation of suppliers’ stands that were once again exquisite. Moving from the Gold Coast to other venues will not be as greater challenge for those suppliers who the majority use Expo as their main trade exhibition.”

Revolving the Expo between major population and demographic centres on the East Coast will also enhance the brand awareness of CEDIA increasing value and adding further credibility to CEDIA members.

The Expo returns to the city where it began in 1994 but on this occasion it will be more than ten times larger. CEDIA staff will be working efficiently as ever to also ensure that the floor plan for the new venue will be made available to potential exhibitors as quickly as possible. With the move to Sydney there is a great expectation that stands will be larger, there will be more exhibitors covering an even broader spectrum of the industry and therefore space will be at an absolute premium despite a significant increase in volume over the Gold Coast. Of course with a larger fertile show the enticement for attendance is also heightened.

At this year’s CEDIA Expo on the Gold Coast from July 31st to August 2nd the attendance was once again extraordinary. Considering the announcement of the Sydney move two months out from Expo, with only four weeks between the U.S and Australian Expo and the downturn of general economic conditions in Australia, the attendance fell by just 100 persons. Despite a decline in attendees it was obvious the appetite for education was powerful with an escalation in education revenues, a record number of installer certifications and the debut of Designer Certification. The education result was particularly pleasing given CEDIA toured both Australia and New Zealand with more regional training than any year prior. The proliferation of education numbers at all events reiterates the strengths of CEDIA as the foremost organisation in this industry and continues a wonderful platform for the industry to expand and improve itself from.

Contrary to a media report during the Expo that vendor numbers were thin on the ground the Expo continued to grow with new exhibitors and returning vendors who had departed in prior years. They were joined by the largest CE companies in the world, interspersed with professional niche suppliers which once again proved the successful formula for CEDIA, its Expo and ultimately a terrific fusion for attendees.

CEDIA Awards 2008 – Winners are grinners

With a majority international judging panel this years awards portrayed the ever increasing standards CEDIA members expect of themselves and their peers. Representing the expanding scope of CEDIA members a new category was introduced for Best Commercial Project and highlighting the importance of effective documentation another new award, Best Project Documentation, also debuted at Expo 08’.
