CEDIA, the world leading association for custom electronic integrated systems professionals, their suppliers and affiliates today announced that’s its annual Expo for the Asia Pacific region will revisit Sydney in 2009.  The CEDIA board made the decision during their most recent meeting following long term consideration of the proposal.

“The mechanics of moving the show to Sydney and beyond the Gold Coast from 2009 is a major challenge but something the association is well prepared for”, said Rob Sanders, Public Relations Chair for CEDIA. “We have exceptional staff leading the responsibility and a dedicated volunteer board who is committed to growing the organisation and the Expo for the betterment of all its members.”

The Expo returns to the city where it began in 1995 but on this occasion it will be more than ten times larger. In the ensuing years the Expo made its way between Sydney, Melbourne and its home of the past eight years on the Gold Coast, by far the most popular venue following the last member survey. “The CEDIA Expo remains the one constant in the electronics industry that has seen several shows come and go in a very short space of time; the decision to remain at the Gold Coast gave stability and surety to attendees, exhibitors and organisers.”

At this year’s CEDIA Expo on the Gold Coast from July 31st to August 2nd the attendance promises to be the largest ever with increased floor space surpassing the previous year’s record. The move to Sydney will see that space grow again but access to it will first be offered to the 2008 Gold Coast exhibitors during this year’s Expo. With less than 15% of the Gold Coast Expo remaining, exhibition space at this year’s Expo and beyond will be at its highest demand.

The move to Sydney in 2009 will also capture the interest of many exhibiting companies outside the Expo’s traditional residential scope.  Most CEDIA members are finding their business expanding to commercial opportunities as their residential projects grow larger and their expertise is highly sort after by commercial suppliers and clients. The integration of commercial suppliers bodes well for many existing Expo exhibitors who also share clients across both markets. Focus on one show by these Exhibitors will ensure CEDIA Expo remains the must attend event.

A decision has not been made on the Expo’s venue beyond 2009 however it is likely the show will roam between cities in the future. The question of public attendance was also considered beyond 2009 however the board at this stage remains firmly committed to a trade only show.
