Press Release 23 August 2007 AEEMA’s Australian Digital Suppliers Industry Forum (ADSIF) and Network Ten today announced AEEMA's new High Definition (HD) certification "tick" logo and the start of TEN's AFL finals, Grand Final and Rugby World Cup coverage in glorious HD Digital. The event, held at TEN's Pyrmont studios, brought together major players and advocates of HD including consumer electronic manufacturers, retailers, broadcast industry and government representatives. The HD certification "tick" logo identifies which televisions have a built-in HD digital tuner and provides consumers with assurance that their TV purchases meet all Australian and industry standards for a true HD television experience. ADSIF chair Ross Henderson said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to understand what constitutes HD TV. "What we're trying to do is help consumers clearly identify products that are developed to relevant standards, while providing greater certainty when connecting with other digital entertainment products." Meanwhile, TEN has taken a leadership position in HD digital broadcasting. TEN's CEO, Grant Blackley, said: "HD provides a real point of difference for free-to-air TV, and TEN is leading the march in Australia by providing the highest possible HD broadcast standard." With approximately 30 per cent of Australian homes having already made the switch from analog, there is a critical mass that increases each quarter. Mr Blackley said: "Most of TEN's prime-time schedule is in HD and we are the only network telecasting premium live sport in HD, which as we've seen in Australia and overseas is a key driver in the take-up of digital television generally, and HD in particular." Mr Blackley added that in 2007, TEN would broadcast over 246 hours of live HD sport, while next year all of its AFL games would be transmitted in HD.
