Why is Australia rolling out the NBN
Why is Australia rolling out the NBN and what does it really mean for your home?

Simple enough question, how about a few quick answers.
Email, Google, Facebook, IPTV, gaming, what about medical diagnosis, in-home care... If you use any of these services you are already involved.
Remember dialup? Australia was an early adoptee of Internet based technologies, sadly that now means we have one of the oldest networks in the developed world. Surpassed by Slovenia, Estonia and Iceland amongst many others, our access to international fibre optic super-highways is not even on the list of the world's top 20.
Not only will our children compete for jobs in this global economy but this platform upon which new technologies are being developed to meet the future needs of our households, institutions and medical facilities is a critical component of the affluent Australia we now take for granted. Whatever your political persuasion and geographical location; opportunity, education and health is important to you.
What is it?
Simply a new broadband network, based on a fibre optic wiring standard that is reliable, stable and capable of carrying hundreds of times the data of your existing system. Delivering technologies outside the reach of existing wiring and wireless solutions.
When do I know the NBN has reached me?
Chances are if you are building a new home in a new suburb in Australia your developer is already installing a fibre optic network in the street, but it will stop short of your front door. You are in the wonderful position of being able to plan your connection DURING construction; before you raise the walls and pour that beautiful driveway across the path of your connection to the world. A phone call now could save you thousands! NBN took over Greenfields from this Jan. If you are living in an established suburb you will be part of the slower rollout and replacement of existing infrastructure. Notification from NBN Co. and trench diggers in your street will be the signs for you. In the meantime you can be proactive about getting your home NBN ready and most importantly seek professional integration advice prior to any new additions and alterations to your home.
