Installer Level 1 Certification Guide

Installer Level I Job Description:
An Installer Level I is a person who works with supervision to install cabling, pathways, components and devices for low-voltage electronics in residential applications including:
• Audio & Video Technologies
• Home Automation
• Radio Frequency & Wireless Technologies
• Voice & Data Networks
• Home Theatre

This person must have at least six months related field experience prior to taking the examination.

Installer Level I Certification Examination Content:
The Installer Level I examination covers the technical body of knowledge, expected for a supervised employee in this field. Major content areas covered by the examination are as follows:

Requirements for Maintaining Your Installer Level I Certification:
The Installer Level I Certification is awarded for a 36 month period. To maintain the active status, prior to the conclusion of the 36 month period, a Certified Professional Installer Level I must be able to provide documentation to prove that 30 Continuing Education Units (CEU) have been obtained and these must be approved by CEDIA Education.

Guidelines for Communicating Your Status:
An individual who passes the Installer Level I examination will attain the status of “CEDIA Certified Professional, Installer Level I” (CCPI I). If desired, the individual may use the abbreviated version of “Individual’s Name, CCPI I” on there business cards, letterhead and other documentation.

Professional Certification is granted to an individual; therefore, they, not the company, retains the credential as long as they maintain the continuing education requirements for CCPI I and are working for a CEDIA Company Member. In marketing materials and other documentation, companies are allowed to identify that they have CEDIA Certified Professionals on staff; however, materials should not indicate that the company is “CEDIA Certified.”
