ESD1 Certification Exam
CEDIA Certified Professional Designer level 1 certification is for an individual who communicates with clients and design and installation professionals. A certified designer selects the appropriate products and materials to design individual (integrated) residential systems (including alarm, telephone, cable television, satellite television, data, audio, video, home theatre, HVAC, and lighting control). This person has around five years of related industry experience prior to taking the examination. The exam is held in the afternoon and comprises 200 multiple choice questions to be completed in four hours.

Guidelines for Communicating Your Status:
An individual who passes the Designer 1 exam will attain the status of “CEDIA Certified Professional, Designer 1.” If desired, the individual may use the abbreviated version of “Individual’s Name, CCP Designer 1 on his or her business cards, letterhead or other documentation. Professional Certification is granted to an individual; therefore, he or she, not the company, retains the credential as long as he or she maintains the CEU required for CCP Designer 1. In marketing materials and other documentation, companies are allowed to identify that they have CEDIA Certified Professionals on staff; however, materials should not indicate that the company is “CEDIA Certified.”
