Certification Programme
Over ten years ago the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association defined an industry. Since then, its educational programs have enhanced the skills and knowledge of thousands of individuals working in that industry. Today, in response to overwhelming support from industry stakeholders, the association continues in its leadership role with the establishment of CEDIA Professional Certification.
By establishing clear, objective standards for the required skills and knowledge of electronics system designers and installers, CEDIA Professional Certification will deliver a range of benefits to individuals, consumers, and manufacturers. By defining a series of benchmarks for designers and installers, CEDIA Professional Certification will promote professionalism and growth throughout the industry.
Introduced in 2003, CEDIA Certification establishes clear, objective standards for knowledge in residential electronic systems design and installation.
Currently, CEDIA has the following levels of Certification:
EST2 (previously called Installer Level 1)
Intended for technical staff who are being supervised.
EST3 (previously called Advanced Installer)
Intended for technical team leaders and advanced installers.
This Certifi cation is not available at the Home Technology Event.
Designer Level 1
Intended for designers of integrated residential systems.
Home Cinema Design Specialist
A specialist exam held over two days that is intended for experienced designers
of high performance home cinemas. It is a requirement that candidates have
already passed Designer Level 1 and that they also pass an online pre-test in
order to register for the Home Cinema Design Specialist exam.
This Certification will be available at the end of 2010.
CEDIA Certified status is recognised throughout the industry, and increasingly by construction professionals, as the established mark of quality and expertise within the residential custom installation sector.
Through CEDIA certification, installers now have a benchmark in their industry against which to measure themselves. Being a CEDIA Certified Electronic Systems Professiontal lends even more prestige to an individual and the CEU (continuing education units) programme offers further career development opportunities as well as give credibility to your company in the eyes of the consumer and design professionals.
CEDIA's intent with certification is to advance the custom electronics industry through the development and maintenance of a valid, credible and reliable certification system based upon a sound structure and quality standards. Industry needs will be met by establishing benchmarks for knowledge, performance, and professionalism. The certification program establishes identifiable career paths and promotes the development of a future workforce that can assure the continued growth of the custom electronics industry.
To ensure the highest degree of professionalism and competency, all CEDIA-certified professionals must take a minimum number of continuing education units (CEU's) to maintain their certification. This requirement ensures certified designers and installers always possess the most up-to-date knowledge and stay current in their skills and knowledge. Previously, all certified professionals had to provide proof of 30 CEU's within three years of their certification. All installers certified in the year 2003 will receive a one-year extension on this requirement. All other certified professionals will be held to the three-year requirement.
Look for more details on the CEDIA web site, as well as a list of eligible CEU classes.
Applicants for certification must meet criteria specified for each examination. To be eligible to sit for any exam administered by CEDIA, applicants must not be currently under disciplinary action by CEDIA and must not have suffered any adverse disciplinary action by CEDIA within two years of applying for CEDIA Professional Certification.
